- Assembling a Two-Wheel-Drive Robot Chassis
Build a rigid chassis with sensible weight distribution and cable routing. · Lab: Assemble the kit, solder motor leads and fit noise-suppression capacitors. - Wiring the Motor Driver and Battery Pack Safely
Create a fused, switched power path with separate logic and motor rails. · Lab: Wire battery, switch, buck converter and driver and verify every voltage before connecting the board. - Differential Drive: Straight Lines, Turns and Spins
Derive vehicle motion from the two wheel speeds and wrap it in drive functions. · Lab: Write forward, turn and spin functions and trim the car to drive straight for two metres. - Wheel Encoders and Driving a Set Distance
Count wheel pulses with interrupts to measure and equalise travel. · Lab: Drive exactly one metre and turn 90 degrees using encoder counts. - Obstacle Detection with a Servo-Swept Ultrasonic Sensor
Scan the surroundings and choose the freest direction. · Lab: Sweep left, centre and right and steer towards the largest distance. - Line Following with Infrared Reflectance Sensors
Read three line sensors and steer to stay on a taped track. · Lab: Follow an oval track of black tape and record lap time. - Remote Driving over Bluetooth from a Phone
Define a compact command protocol and add a link-loss stop. · Lab: Drive the car from a phone app and confirm it halts within half a second of losing the link. - A Behaviour State Machine: Explore, Avoid, Follow
Combine behaviours with clear priorities and transitions. · Lab: Implement mode switching by button and by command with a buzzer signal for each mode. - Battery Monitoring and Low-Voltage Cut-Off
Measure pack voltage through a divider and protect the cells. · Lab: Calibrate the reading and make the car stop and beep below a set voltage. - Field Testing, Tuning and Logging a Robot Run
Test against written criteria and tune using recorded data instead of guesswork. · Lab: Stream run data over Bluetooth, chart it and improve one parameter with evidence.
Abschlussprojekt
An autonomous robot car with three switchable behaviours (obstacle avoidance, line following and phone control), battery protection and a logged test run.
